Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) Compliance

Last updated: January 2026

Notice to applicants. VBC is committed to fair, equitable, and transparent lending practices in full compliance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

1. Overview of FCRA compliance

The Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq.) is a federal law that governs how consumer information is collected, used, and disseminated. VBC strictly adheres to all FCRA requirements and regulations.

2. Permissible purpose

VBC only obtains consumer reports for lawful permissible purposes, including: creditworthiness evaluation for loan decisions, underwriting analysis, regulatory and legal compliance, identity verification, and fraud prevention. We do not obtain or use consumer reports for any other purpose.

3. Disclosure and authorization

Before obtaining any consumer report from a credit reporting agency, VBC provides clear written disclosure of its intent to access your credit information. We require your written authorization before pulling your credit report. You have the right to know when a report is requested and for what purpose.

4. Adverse action notices

If VBC makes a decision that negatively affects you based on information in a consumer report (such as declining a loan), we will provide you with written notice within the timeframe required by law. This notice includes the name and contact information of the credit reporting agency used and your right to dispute the accuracy of the report.

5. Your rights under FCRA

Right to know: you have the right to know that a consumer report was used in making a decision that affects you.

Right to dispute: you have the right to dispute inaccurate information in your credit report directly with the credit reporting agency and request corrections.

Free credit report: you are entitled to a free copy of your credit report once per year from each major credit reporting agency at www.annualcreditreport.com.

Right to add a statement: if you believe information in your report is inaccurate or incomplete, you can add a consumer statement (up to 100 words) to your file.

6. Fair lending practices

VBC evaluates all applicants for credit fairly and equitably. We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, age, or receipt of public assistance benefits. Our lending decisions are based solely on objective credit criteria applied consistently to all applicants.
